Didn't it state that they were required? So I bought a bigger size. Nice to walk in, feels safe on ice. Unfortunately, the shafts are a bit tight so one kind of rubs on the leg - luckily I have narrow legs.. Difficult to pull the zipper up all the way. They are a bit clumsy in the shafts because they are so short there. Of course I keep them so I can walk on icy sidewalks.
